Jukebox Challenge

I think we're through the thick of it.

Power still here. Internet still pumping.

As tempting as a run in the cold drizzle is (it isn't) I think I'll just wait for the Y to reopen at noon today. Either way, the streak is safe.

M and I are set up in our home offices. The beauty and the curse of being able to work remotely. You still have to work.

We're not too stir crazy since we snuck out last night for a beer and a jukebox set where all songs had to contain the word rain in them. Not terribly original, but fun nonetheless. Even if I got teary when someone selected Box of Rain by the Grateful Dead.

My dad, neither a music lover nor someone particularly fond of hippies or their ilk, heard this when he was driving me home from college one break and I had control of the radio. He actually asked me to make him a copy of the song. That guy, he could surprise you every once in a while.

So, here are some tunes from last night:
  • Walking in the Rain - Oran Jones
  • I'm Only Happy When It Rains - Garbage
  • I Can't Stand the Rain - Missy Elliot
  • I Love a Rainy Night - Eddie Rabbit
  • November Rain - Guns-N-Roses (M's choice, not mine)
Clearly, clearly, tons more options here but I only had five bucks. Tell me what you would have played. Maybe I'll even dig up a prize from my days as a paid blogger. Oh sigh, the days....

Purple Rain - Prince
Kentucky Rain - Elvis
A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall - Bob Dylan

Great choices!! Purple Rain apparently got some heavy rotation before we arrived.

I got a little tsk tsk from someone already for not adding the Dylan.

And now I need to google the Elvis one because I'm not sure I know it. Thanks!

Ironic by Alanis Morrisette (b/c the chorus goes: "It's like rayyyyyeeaaaayn on your wedding day") :)

Oh yes! We DID play the eurythmics too! How great is that song? That's one of those songs that gets played and the whole bar goes, oh sh*t, I LOVE that song!

Keiko, sneaky! And awesome undercover choice. B/c it would have people wondering until the chorus came in. I LIKE it!

I know neither! I may need to go out again tonight. For the sake research, of course.

and I meant to add this. box of rain was written when the father of the grateful dead's bass player (whose song it is) was dying. I always think of it as an abstraction of life and love.

my husband sometimes sings it to our 3yo as a lullabye. when I met the dead's bass player, I told him that. he promptly leaned in to our daughter, real close and quiet, and sang her the whole first part of the song. it was actually very sweet.

Luna, wow, wow, wow. I had no idea. Pretty hard to type though tears right now. Wow. That story is one that must be part of your little girl's oral history.

Wow, that is so sweet and poignant. I will have to check it out.
My favorite fun rain song is one if those one hit wonders, from the 80s, I think.
It's raining men, by the weather girls.
You tube it, it's fun!
Come rain or come shine, Judy garland - an oldie but goodie

Raindrops keep falling on my head, from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid ( a favorite of my Robert Redford loving mom when I was small - showing my age!)
I'm glad you're safe and your date sounds like a really cute and fun improvised idea!

The Eddie rabbit song was always my favorite, still have a soft spot for it.
Glad your okay down there, Toronto really didn't get anything other then some unpleasant moist(and for me, no running days).

Sorry I haven't stopped by much lately, I'm working now(in a factory, it's very odd, but they make all natural cosmetics and soap, so the products are nice, even if 8 hours of standing is killing my back).

Love all these ideas.

Another vote here for Here Comes the Rain Again (Eurythmics)
Mandolin Rain (Bruce Hornsby)
Kiss the Rain (Billie Myers)

:)

Glad you are hanging in there. I guess i'm dating myself, but I couldn't believe how far down the list "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" was -- it was the first song that popped into my head. ; )

And nobody's mentioned Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" yet??

Some oldies for you:

Laughter in the Rain (Neil Sedaka)
Crying in the Rain (Everly Brothers)
Rhythm of the Rain (The Cascades)
Raindrops (Dee Clark)
Who'll Stop the Rain & Have You Ever Seen the Rain (both by Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Lay Down Candles in the Rain (Melanie)
Early Morning Rain (Gordon Lightfoot)
Fire & Rain (James Taylor)

OK, I'll stop now. ; ) This was fun!
